Geçenlerde, Ekim 2009’da Madison Square Garden’da yapılan tam 6 saatlik Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25. yıl konserinin 4 saat 5 dakikalık Bluray sürümünü izledim. Zamanında müzik tarihe damgasını vurmuş birçok grup ya da temsilcisinin katıldığı konser tam bir şenlik havasında. Tom Hanks’in sunuculuğunu yaptığı konserde, Jerry Lee Lewis, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Aretha Franklin, Metallica, U2, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’in sahne alıyorlar ve bu ana sanatçılar bir yandan kendi şarkılarını, bir yandan da Jackson Browne’dan Annie Lennox’a, Ray Davies’den Ozzy Osbourne’a birçok efsane grup temsilcisinin katılımı ile onların bestelerini çalıyorlar. Bu yüzden konser başlı başına bir efsane geçidi gibi. Hala 50, 60 ya da 70’lerdeki ölümsüz şarkılarını arada bir dinlediğimiz sanatçıların oldukça yaşlanmış hallerini görmek bir yandan garip gelse de bir yandan da sahneye çıkıp gitarı ellerine aldıklarında ya da şarkı söylemeye başladıklarındaki performanslarını görünce çok şaşırıyorsunuz.
Benim en çok şaşırdığım anlardan biri B.B. King’in Stevie Wonder ile birlikte The Thrill Is Gone’ı çalarken ki haliydi. Sesi ve gitarın her teline dokunduğundaki mimikleri gerçekten efsaneviydi. Bir diğeri ise konserde ilk sahne alan Jerry Lee Lewis’in ilerlemiş yaşına rağmen efsanevi bestesi Great Balls of Fire’u çalıp bitirdikten sonra ayağa kalkıp oturduğu tabureye tekme atması…
